FAQ
What is Valdrys?
A 2D isometric MMORPG, built from scratch and bought once. Six classes — five of them playable today — loot that rolls its own stats, professions, guilds, dungeons for one, two or five players, a ranked arena and a full-loot PvP frontier. Nobody can cheat: every result is decided by the game itself, never by a player's machine.
Does it cost anything?
The playtest is free. The game will be $14.99 on Steam, bought once, from Early Access in late 2026. There is no subscription, no currency sold for money and no cosmetics store — the purchase is the whole cost, and if that ever changes it will be announced clearly and in advance, not slipped into a patch.
What is it built with?
An independent project. The server is Go, the client is Godot, and the art is licensed or commissioned — never taken from another game. Everything third-party is listed on the credits page.
Is it finished?
No, and it says so. The systems listed on the front page are built and playable, but the world is still growing, there is one quest chain, and the Rogue class is announced without being finished — which is why you cannot pick it. Expect rough edges and expect things to change.
Will my character be wiped?
No — your characters persist from the beta onward. Nothing is wiped for a patch, a balance pass or a bad week. Exactly one wipe is reserved, for a commercial 1.0 launch if that day ever comes, and it would be announced at least two weeks ahead. The open-test charter is the full promise in writing.
What are the system requirements?
Modest. It is a 2D game — if your machine is from the last decade it will run. The client caps its frame rate to your monitor and the heaviest cost is drawing ground detail, which you can turn down in Options if you need to.
How do I install it?
Through Steam, which installs it and keeps it updated — there is no launcher and no website account. The free playtest runs from Thursday 24 September at 6 PM EDT (22:00 UTC): on the Steam page, press Request Access under “Join the Valdrys Playtest”, and Steam lets you know when you are in. You can ask now — and wishlist it while you are there.
Is there a Mac or Linux build?
Not yet. The client is Godot, which can export to both, so it is possible rather than planned. Windows is what gets tested.
Can I cheat?
Not usefully. The client sends what you intend — "move here", "cast this" — and the server decides what actually happens, re-checking range and line of sight at the moment an ability resolves. Editing the client changes what you see, never what is true.
Is my connection secure?
Yes. Traffic is encrypted with TLS, and the client verifies the server's certificate rather than trusting whatever answers — so a machine on your network cannot read your session or impersonate the realm.
Will it be on Steam?
It is. The store page is live and the game is Coming Soon, $14.99, Windows. The server runs on a dedicated host in a data centre, not on a home connection. The release date will be announced on Discord and here first.
How do I report a bug?
Post it on Discord or the Steam community hub. Switch on the performance readout (Options → Video) and send a screenshot with the build stamp from the title bar — that stamp identifies exactly which build you were running, which usually halves the time it takes to find the problem.
Can I delete my account?
Yes, on request, and it is genuinely deleted. See the privacy policy.
