Valdrys collects about as little as an online game can. There is no advertising, no analytics, no tracking, and nothing is sold or shared with anyone. This page describes exactly what is stored and why.

What is stored

To run your account and your characters, the server keeps:

  • Your account name. You choose it. It does not have to resemble your real name, and we would rather it did not.
  • A cryptographic hash of your password (bcrypt). The password itself is never written down anywhere, and cannot be recovered from the hash — not by us either.
  • A session token hash, so "stay signed in" works. It expires, and it is replaced every time you sign in.
  • Your character data: character names, class, level, experience, position in the world, inventory, gear, currency, quest and achievement progress, guild and friends lists.

What is not stored

  • No email address. The game never asks for one.
  • No real name, address, date of birth or phone number.
  • No payment information. There is nothing to buy.
  • No analytics, telemetry, advertising identifiers or third-party trackers — not in the game, and not on this website.
  • No voice or video. The game has no voice chat.

Connection logs

Like any server on the internet, the game server records connection events — including the IP address a connection came from — in its operational log. These are used to diagnose faults, investigate abuse and enforce bans. They are not profiled, not linked to anything outside the game, and not shared.

The public standings

This site publishes standings — the arena ladder, the highest characters, and the top of each skill. Those pages show character names, classes and levels only. They never show your account name, and they never show anything you were not already displaying to every player standing next to you in the world.

The standings are compiled from the saved game data and published as a file with the site, so they reflect a point in time rather than live play. If you would rather not appear, ask and your characters will be excluded.

Chat

Messages you type in-game are relayed to the players who can see them. Chat is not archived for analysis, but text you send to other people is, by nature, seen by them — and moderators may act on reports about it. Treat public chat as public.

Who can see your data

Only the operator of the server. Valdrys uses no third-party service providers for accounts, analytics or storage, and your data is never sold, rented or shared for marketing. It would be shared only if the law required it.

The one deliberate exception is the public standings described above, which publish character names, classes and levels — and nothing else.

Security

The connection between the game client and the server is encrypted with TLS, and the client verifies the server's certificate — so traffic cannot be read or impersonated in transit. Passwords are stored only as bcrypt hashes. No system is perfect, and you should not reuse a password here that protects anything important.

Children

Valdrys is not directed at children under 13, and accounts should not be created by them. If you believe a child has created an account, contact us and it will be removed.

Your choices

  • Deletion. Ask, and your account and all its characters will be deleted. This is irreversible and there is no backup restore afterwards.
  • Access. Ask, and you will be told what is held about your account.
  • Correction. Character and account names can be changed on request.

Depending on where you live you may have additional statutory rights — for example under the UK/EU GDPR or the CCPA. Those rights are honoured; given how little is collected, most requests amount to "delete it", which takes a day at most.

Retention

Account and character data is kept while the account exists. Operational logs are kept only as long as they are useful for diagnosing problems. If the game shuts down permanently, the data is destroyed rather than transferred.

Changes

If this policy changes materially, the date at the top changes and the change is announced in the news. It will never be quietly rewritten.

Contact

For anything on this page — deletion, access, or a question — get in touch through the contact route listed on the download page.

Plainly: the server needs a name to call you, proof it is you, and somewhere to keep your character. That is the entire list.
